In my first comparison of Connor McDavid and the other 1st overall picks since Sidney Crosby, I looked at five categories: points per game, the percentage of their team's goals they scored, and the percentage of their team's points they scored. But doing an apples to apples comparison of, say, the QMJHL (with an NHLE of 0.26) to the OHL (with an NHLE of 0.30).
So, we're going to add an appendix to the original McDavid article looking at NHLE points. No, not NHLE points per game, just raw NHLEs. Why? Because NHLEs are calculated by multiplying points per game by 82 (the number of games in a season) and multiplying that by a league's NHL equivalency. This compensates for a player missing a few games because of an injury or for some other reason.
With that out of the way, let's look at the results:

With that out of the way, let's look at the results:
- Connor McDavid, Erie Otters (OHL), 63 pts.
- Patrick Kane, London Knights (OHL), 62 pts.
- Sidney Crosby, Rimouski Oceanic (QMJHL), 58 pts.
- Taylor Hall, Windsor Spitfires (OHL) and John Tavares, Oshawa Generals/London Knights (OHL), 46 pts.
- Steven Stamkos, Sarnia Sting (OHL), 42 pts.
- Nail Yakupov, Sarnia Sting (OHL), 40 pts.
- Nathan MacKinnon, Halifax Mooseheads (QMJHL), 36 pts.
- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Red Deer Rebels (WHL), 33 pts.
- As always, Crosby and Kane put in a very good performance.
- Connor McDavid is still the real deal, coming out on top of all first round picks since "the Next One".
- Another weak showing from Nathan MacKinnon. Same old, same old . . .
- Come to think of it, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is also pretty weak by first overall standards. finishing 9th then 8th in points per game and percentage of team goals scored, then an OK 5th in percentage of team points scored. This makes sense since he scored nearly two and a half times more assists than goals in his draft year.
