There's a lot of metrics out there that try to adjusted for usage, like Usage-Adjusted Corsi from Domenic Galamini at Own the Puck and Delta Corsi from Steve Burtch. Today, I'm going to throw my own metric into the hat with Teammate-Adjusted Corsi (TACF%).
TACF% is calculated with TMCF% (teammate Corsi For percentage), a weighted average of the Corsi percentage of a player's teammates at Hockey Analysis. It is also calculated using percentage difference, calculated by dividing the difference between two numbers by the average of the two numbers. Now that we've got that explanation out of the way, here is how to calculate TACF%:
If TMCF% is more than 50
CF% * 1 - (TMCF% - 50) / (50 + TMCF%) / 2)
If TMCF% is less than 50
CF% * 1 + (50 - TMCF%) / (50 + TMCF%) / 2)
TACF% is calculated by calculating a sort of coefficient based on TMCF%, where a TMCF% of 50 would be a coefficient of 1, meaning a players CF% would stay the same. This can help identify which players are the victim of poor teammates. For instance: Matt Moulson's 5v5 CF% is 40.1%. Horrible, right? But his TACF% is 52.51%, because his teammates pitched a 36.6 CF% while he wasn't on ice.
